About the Training

Join David Garrigues for a teacher training built entirely around his seven core asana principles, a method for understanding how yoga postures actually work, how to teach them safely, and how to access their full power. Each day takes on 1 to 2 principles and explores them from every angle: the technology of teaching them (adjustments, verbal cues, prop usage, modifications), the tradition they're rooted in, the healing they make possible, and how they connect to purpose in your teaching.

Trainees leave able to teach from principle and reasoning rather than rote repetition, adapting sequences and adjustments for any body, with confidence behind every cue.

Who Should Attend

Serious yoga students and teachers who want to deepen their understanding of Ashtanga's underlying technology, gain confidence adjusting and cueing a wide range of bodies, and receive direct mentorship from David Garrigues.

What You'll Learn

  • Adapting the daily asana practice for different bodies, ages, injuries, and limitations
  • Sequencing intelligent classes that honor tradition while meeting students where they are
  • Effective use of modifications and props to make challenging poses accessible
  • Giving safe physical adjustments that build student independence
  • The 7 fundamental asana principles as a clear method for practice and teaching
  • Integrating prāṇāyāma and meditation into practice and teaching
  • Applying yoga philosophy (Yoga Sutras, Bhagavad Gita, Hatha Yoga Pradipika) practically in practice and life

The 7 Core Asana Principles

  1. Samasthiti: the root position as reference point for every pose
  2. Crouch and Spring: clear setup and pure action in transitions
  3. Foundation First: legs and arms lengthened and strengthened to support the spine
  4. Awaken the Spine: spinal alignment and mobility, "gesturing" with the spine
  5. Tap Breathing: accessing prana through breath control
  6. Seal in Energy: mudras and energy locks to channel vital energy
  7. Play with Pairs of Opposites: balancing opposing forces for power and harmony
