Customized Ashtanga Certification Track
Core Certification Requirements - All candidates must demonstrate considerable skill in four key areas to earn certification. This includes passing assessments (written, practical, or both) to verify competency in the following:
1. Articulating Asana Actions with Verbal Cues
- Clear, effective communication of alignment, transitions, and key actions in the pose.
2. Thorough Knowledge of the Vinyasa Structure
- Mastery of the Primary Series, including:
- Counting the vinyasa in Sanskrit.
- Articulating the nuances of transitions into and out of poses.
3. Modifications and Props
- Ability to present thoughtful modifications and skillfully use props to make the Primary Series accessible and safe.
4. Physical Adjustments
- Competency in giving mindful, effective, and safe physical adjustments tailored to individual needs.
4 Pathways to Certification (online and/or in-person)
Participants may customize their journey toward certification by choosing one or more of the following pathways:
1. Six-Month Online Mentorship Program (June - November 2025)
- Engage in:
- Two private one-on-one sessions per month.
- Two 2.5-hour live group sessions per month (recordings made available)
- Access to the online Mysore class (3 days a week, not mandatory).
- Membership in the Asana Kitchen Subscription Channel.
2. Study Hours (Online or In-Person)
- Complete a specific number of training hours through:
- Online courses.
- In-person workshops or retreats.
3. Assisting at Live Events (In-Person)
- Gain hands-on experience by assisting David in live workshops, Mysore intensives, or online classes.
4. Participation in Additional Offerings (Online or In-Person)
- Attend periodic live online classes and special workshops.
Certification Process
Becoming certified is not based on hours but based on proficiency. Steps to certification:
1. Skill Verification (Online or In-Person)
- Candidates must pass the following assessments:
- Written Exam: Testing knowledge of vinyasa structure, Sanskrit count, and key teaching principles.
- Practical Exams:
- Teach a mock class demonstrating verbal cues, vinyasa counting, and transition articulation.
- Show proficiency in modifications, prop use, and physical adjustments.
2. Documentation of Experience
- Submit logs showing completion of required study hours or participation milestones:
- E.g., 50 hours in Mysore classes, 10 hours assisting, or 60 hours in live workshops.
3. Feedback and Mentorship (Online or In-Person)
- Receive feedback and personalized guidance from David to refine skills before final assessments.
4. Portfolio Submission (Optional)
- Include reflections on teaching philosophy and growth throughout the training.
Additional Flexibility
This certification is accessible and individualized:
- Candidates can spread their participation across multiple formats and timeframes (e.g., completing mentorship one year and assisting live events the next.)
- Individualized fee structure based on the chosen pathway (mentorship, assisting, etc.)
- Preparatory courses or workshops specifically aimed at preparing candidates for the exams.
Fee
The fee to take the exam is $2000. Once a student passes the exam they will be added to David's Certification Registry on his website.
