In the asana theory classes we’ll utilize the 1st, 2nd and 3rd series to explore the three major asana categories that are found in each Series— backbends, arm balances, and hip openers.
With each series, we’ll be working with different options ranging from easier to more difficult. We’ll explore different versions, exercises, modifications, and drills; every student will be able to find suitable and soulful ways of playing with the different poses. You’ll develop your knowledge of asana as an overall subject and better understand which specific poses and versions to include in your personal practice.
The philosophy talks will focus on the meaning and application of Chitkisa (1st Series)— cleansing, purification, Nadi Shodana (2nd Series)—cleansing of the energy (pranic) channels and Sthira Bhaga (3rd Series)—gaining one’s portion or share of stability, grounding, trustworthiness, certainty, settlement, steadiness.
In addition, we’ll identify the important landmarks of progressing from a primary level understanding of yoga to a more intermediate or advanced understanding.
