In the asana theory classes we’ll utilize the 2nd and 3rd series to explore 3 major asana categories that are found in both of those series—1) back bends 2) arm balance, 3) hip openers. With both 2nd and 3rd series, we’ll be working with different options ranging from easier to more difficult versions-exercises-modifications-drills. to insure that every student finds suitable, satisfying, and soulful ways of working and playing with the different poses. You will not only gain a greater understanding of the specific poses to be studied, but also a greater overall understanding of asana that can be applied to any posture from any series.
The philosophy talks will focus on the meaning and application of Nadi Shodana (2nd Series)—cleansing of the energy (pranic) channels and Sthira Bhaga (3rd series)—gaining one’s portion or share of sthira-stability, grounding, trustworthiness, certainty, settlement, steadiness. Also we’ll explore the meaning or important landmarks of progressing from a primary level understanding of yoga to a more intermediate or advanced understanding.
