Yoga philosophy immersion into the Yamas are Five restraints or moral observance that are the foundation of yoga. Practicing the Yamas is known as the Maha Vratam or Great Vow of the yogi.
The five Yamas are:
1) Ahimsa (non-harming)
2) Satya (Non-lying)
3) Asteya (Non-stealing)
4) Brahmacarya (Non-lust)
5) Aparigraha (Non-greed)
Topics of study will include:
—thorough definition of each Yama; including both conventional and lesser known interpretations of the terms
—how to apply the Yamas directly to the daily asana practice.
—Overcoming common obstacles to practicing the Yamas
—study of the Yoga Sutras in the second chapter that are specific to the Yamas
—Teachings from other texts that serve to help the yogi succeed in practicing them.
—Insights from David’s twenty five plus years of grappling with them.
