If you are wondering what is meant by ‘action’ you are not alone. The Bhagavad Gita is a sacred text that is a deep study in the concept of action; it says, “even scholars and poets are confused as to what is action and what is inaction."  The Gita defines the entire process of yoga as “skill in action” and then urges the student to seek to perform every action consciously and as a sacrifice to the Great Spirit of all life. For us (who practice Hatha Yoga) we begin our pursuit of bringing skill to our every action by knowing that the foundation of action in an asana is to activate specific parts of your body when you strike a pose.

These course will give you:

-specific instructions for performing actions throughout your body in each pose of the Primary Series

-you'll gain practical knowledge for doing your poses

-be more in command of what you do with your feet or legs or spine when you strike a pose

-learn to fully participate in your pose, and to use all of you--your body, mind, and senses to consciously express each pose

-connect the philosophy of the Bhagavad Gita to what you do on the mat and in your life

By performing actions in your poses you are simply engaging in a beloved pastime of the yogi that helps bring acceptance, endurance, stamina, and joy to the long, rigorous hours spent in solitude doing poses. Learning actions and how they connect to the philosophy in the Bhagavad Gita will help you pass the time well in your asanas and lead you forward in your hunt for the elusive, invisible secret self who dwells in the heart center within your very own house.
