Workshops
In his workshops David offers a combination both traditional counted vinyasa led classes and clinic style led classes that investigate specific aspects of the practice in varying levels of detail. These important classes feature more verbal instruction; they give students a chance to slow things down, see new ways to orient during practice, get explanations of elusive, often unspoken aspects of the practice, and understand the Ashtanga method in greater, more subtle detail. Mysore, chanting and kirtan classes are also frequently included in a workshop. During the weekend David weaves together studies of asana, pranayama, bandha's, vinyasa, chanting, bhakti yoga, yoga sutra's and other elements to help develop Ashtanga Vidya (knowledge).
Mysore Intensives
David has three Mysore Intensives each year. Kovalam, India (click here), Breitenbush Hot Springs (click here), and on the Outerbanks, North Carolina (click here). The core of a Mysore intensive is for students to develop their practice through receiving individualized instruction from David in focused Mysore style classes. These sessions are supplemented with additional instructed classes that focus on asana and pranayama theory, yoga philosophy, and fun, inspiring, teaching stories from sacred indian texts. Mysore intensives are also for students to get away to an inspiring, beautiful location and to enjoy a restful and rejuvenating vacation or retreat. Following each day's Mysore session there will be a 1-2.5 hour class that offers a combination of chanting, pranayama, asana theory, adjustment knowledge, lecture and discussion. On the weekends there can also be further in-depth workshop classes on topics that are relevant to the practice. The duration of Mysore intensives can be as few as three days or as long as five weeks (as in India).
